BLRC All Over the Map & the Tables

In the next three days, 32 players from Burnaby Lake will take the pitch in National, Provincial and 7s competitions.

Five players from the women’s team have traveled to the island with the National Senior Women’s Team to prepare for the first of two matches vs. the United States as they build to the 2010 World Cup this September. Julia Sugawara, Kim Donaldson, Anna Schnell, Corrine Jacobson & Maria Gallo will play the first of two matches against the States this Monday.

The Lighthouse will be on the island on Saturday as well, as teams from both the men and women are entering into the JBAA Buccaneer tournament, the first of the BC Summer 7s series. The weeks of preparation will be put to the test as the competition will be fierce.

The men’s 7s team will be missing Sanaila Dawai who will be starting in the centres for the BC Bears game vs England Counties. Sana will be joined by club mates Lewis Hart and Scott Plummber and under the guidance of Mike James who returns as head coach of the BC team as their season gets underway at Klahanie on Saturday.

Best of luck to all the players and coaches representing the Club across the competitive stages.

Summer at BLRC

Hey You!

Feeling a little lumpy?

We're still playing touch on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Grass fields (Burnaby Lake East) at 6:30ish.

If you want more running... play 7s this summer. Mens and Womens and Youth practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays, Burnaby Lake East. Youth start at 6:30, Men and Women start at 7:30. Saturdays are in Surrey at Bear Creek Park, 3:00 start. Contact Roko at kapaiwai@shaw.ca for more info.

A few more notes:

Bos (Edvin) is holding some weight training sessions for anyone interested. He is a qualified personal trainer and is willing to help you get stronger by boosting your self esteem. They run on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 7s.

Do you want to be a better kicker? Simon from South Africa is volunteering his time to help you! Kickers can kick balls on Thursdays at 6 (Pre-touch). Come kick some balls.

Yours Truly,

RainDog

Helping Prepare our Women

As the women prepare for their Semi Final game this weekend vs. the Capilano, the request comes to you, Senior Men, to show up at the grass fields tonight at 7pm to run some opposition.
A little touch to start, followed by some shoulders and then a little cheer in the Clubhouse to top it all off.

See you this evening and thanks for your help in supporting the Women's run to the Premier Championship

Summer Touch & 7s

For players wanting to keep fit and have fun over the off season, the BLRC will be running its Summer Touch & a 7s program for Men, Women & Juniors.
Tonight –Wednesday April 28- Touch will be held at the turf fields at 7:30
Starting May 4, Touch will run at the grass fields at 6:30 on Tuesday & Thursday (like in past years)

The Premier women's team is also gearing up for their playoff run. Over the next few weeks, to support our Women’s program, Touch will double as opposition as needed. The more men & juinors out at Touch over the next few weeks, the better prepared the gals can be for their defense of the BC Premier Women’s title!

7s will start in the next few weeks, visit this site for the latest updates.

Support our members of the National Sr Women's Team

Having just returned from a grueling 10 day pre-World Cup camp in Olds, AB the six Burnaby Lake members of the NSWT are looking forward to joining their teammates as they move in to the 2010 season playoffs. The Canadian Women will be getting together next in June when they play two test matches vs. the US at Shawnigan Lake School.

There has been some recent press around the financial needs of this team. In an effort to help alleviate the cost burden for each player they have a couple of fundraisers currently going on:

1. Raffle for a London Wasps jersey - tickets are $5 each.
2. Sale of a cookbook compiled by our very own Kim Donaldson including recipes submitted by players from the NSWT. Cookbooks are $20 each (and also make fabulous gifts).

You can purchase either of these from Julia Sugawara, Kim Donaldson, Maria Gallo, Corinne Jacobsen, Marie-Eve Brindamour-Carignan or Anna Schnell.

These 6 players would like to thank the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club for all of the continued and generous support. Go Blue & White!
